When you’re young, you may get the whiff of a parent’s tipple now and again. At a dinner party they may throw, or decanted in the study after a hard day’s work. It may be red or white, dark brown or clear, sweet or smoky, bubbly or syrupy. Either way, we make judgements very early on in our lives what we like and don’t like in our beverages, and those first baby steps into the world of alcohol are filled equally with tales of debauchery and disgust at the first time it passes our lips.

As we move on in life we identify with certain types - whether that’s beer or spirits - and experiment to varying degrees of success and regret ;-) Whilst other spirits are usually enjoyed either as a shot at a party or combined with a mixer to make a cocktail, whisky is usually relegated to accompanying cola socially.

It’s only when we get a bit older and particular about our alcohol choices do we really appreciate whisky for all its worth. And that’s when - if a bottle of Grants tells you to enjoy it neat - that’s what you gladly do. As such, with no ice, no watering down, and no mixer, this Signature blend has the kind of earnest, powerful character that we may have maybe shied away from in our younger days with rich, malty notes. Of course, being a blend though, there’s more to it than that in the form of caramel hints and melt-in-your-mouth biscuit that are perfect at this time of year as we turn up the fire and nest for the holidays.

So as we roast chestnuts and cheer in the new year, introduce this superb bottle to those around you, or give it as a gift to the whisky lover in your life and clink your glasses to William Grant and his family for such an inspired homage.

Grant’s Signature Blend can be found exclusively at Tesco for the great price of £18.49
